About Reiki (Pronounced Ray-Key)
Rei means universal and Ki means the Life force, is a natural system of energy healing. This modality involves the transfer of energy from practitioner to patient to enhance the body’s natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of energy. It is the same energy, which brings forth all life in the universe and nourishes it.
This system of energy healing originated in India, its over 3,000 years old. In the late 19th century Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered the key which led to the recovery of a thousand-year-old tradition of healing.
Life force plays an important role in everything we do. This is the nonphysical energy that animates all living things. As long as something is alive, it has life force circulating through it and surrounding it; when it dies, the life force departs. If your life force is low, or if there is a restriction in its flow, you will be more vulnerable to illness. Very often we tend to short-circuit our own energy system as a result of some traumatic event, which has led to a shutdown or blockage in our physical, emotional, psychological or spiritual bands of energy. When it is high, and flowing freely, you are less likely to get sick. Energy healing is thus a process of promoting balance and harmony on all levels. This Ki is present all around us and can be accumulated and guided by the intention.
A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through you. It impacts the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of human existence. Reiki can relieve pain and enhance healing of all diseases and illnesses.
One transcends the physical limitations, and true healing occurs and with true healing some amazing cures are produced as byproducts. Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.
It is done by placing the hands on or near the recipient. The practitioner runs Reiki Energy while placing their hands on or over a series of locations on the recipients body. Reiki can also be sent through a distance without the physical presence of the recepient and hence called Distant Reiki healing.
Reiki Healing Sessions (One-To-One / Distant )
Reiki can be used one on one for hands on sessions, similar to massage therapy, or it can be sent over a distance. Both hands on and distant healings are equally beneficial.
Distant healings allow for increased flexibility, both for the individual and the practitioner. Distant healing sessions are usually set out as either half hour or hour long sessions. These sessions can be done in real time, as part of a collective list of sessions, or through an energy ball called a chi ball that can be used at any time.
Generally, practitioners ask individuals to rest and relax during a session. Although the energies work just as well with a moving target, resting allows full use of the relaxing feel of the energy flow. During the actual session, the majority of people feel a heightened sense of well-being. Some can even feel the static, warmth, or chill of particular frequencies as they are being sent. Afterwards, most people feel recharged and more relaxed. Issues (particularly emotionally charged ones) are sometimes brought up so that they can be faced and then released. Cleansing and balancing of the system tends to continue over a period of three days to a week. However, the process can continue for up to three weeks.
1. Reiki Level 1: The First Degree
Level 1 is a practitioner’s initiation into Reiki and is open to anyone. The focus during Level 1 is on opening the energy channels on a physical level, allowing the practitioner to connect to the universal life force energy, which flows from the cosmos through the crown of the head and down to the heart and hands.
2. Reiki Level 2: Second Degree
Level 2 is often defined by a focus on practicing Reiki on others, as well as an expanded opening of the energy channels. Additionally students receive the “Reiki symbols” and Level 2 attunement. The Reiki symbols allow the practitioner to connect more deeply to the universal energy, as well as draw on the qualities that the symbols represent. This includes the ability to provide distance Reiki, or sending healing energy to individuals wherever they may be.
3. Reiki Level 3: Third Degree & Reiki Mastership
In many courses, the Third Degree and Reiki Master are the same designation. However some teachers separate Level 3 from Reiki Master, in order to emphasize the difference between receiving the Master attunement, from being trained in attuning new students or practitioners. The Reiki Master Level is traditionally considered the teacher’s level – a practitioner who has received the energy and knowledge to attune new Reiki practitioners. Many receive the Master attunement, along with the corresponding symbol, yet don’t feel comfortable or practiced in properly attuning others -hence the distinction between Third Degree and Reiki Master.
